Avon's New SF Imprint Eos Launches With Online Convention

Avon Books launches its new science fiction and fantasy imprint, Eos, named after the Goddess of the Dawn, this Saturday with a publishing first -- an online convention or "Con" as they are known. Publisher Lou Aronica and his team at Avon have been working hard to make the convention entertaining for fans, authors, readers, artists, reviewers and publishing professionals.

In an interview with The Internet Writing Journal, Aronica stated that, "To the degree possible, it's going to feel like a real con. There will be panels and author interviews and we're even setting up autographings. Fans are going to have to provide their own filksinging, however."

Activities scheduled for the Con include author chats, panels, giveaways, an ongoing short story written online by four eos authors and a SF IQ test where you can test your knowledge of SF. Aspiring SF/Fantasy writers won't want to miss the panel entitled "Getting and Staying Published" which takes place on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. EST. Editor Jennifer Brehl and two Eos authors -- Carolyn Ives Gilman (Halfway Human) and Severna Park (Hand of Prophecy) will lead a frank discussion about what every aspiring writer needs to know to get published and to stay published .

Bestselling authors Gregory Benford, Ben Bova and Ray Feist are among the other authors scheduled to appear at the Con. The Con will be held at http://www.avonbooks.com/eos from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. EST on Saturday, January 10. 1998. A full schedule and more information is available on the Eos site.
